I want to talk about sports that is different than the Olympics, professional, college or high school. There needs to be more approaches to encourage children to participate in the healthy, aerobic enjoyment of sports.
Competition can be in harmony with dignity and humor....and competition reveals far more than just winning or losing the sport game or who the star is. For instance, children can learn how each other will react in a game situation that can be applied to other similar life's situations. This is helpful for kids who daily do things together away from their sport game. It is helpful in creating, building and sustaining their artful livlihood. All this learning while they get a healthy aerobic workout.
There are many athlete's who don't wish to play on their school teams from grade school through high school. The reason is they view it as too much stress on winning and the stress of some player's needing individual honors for the college scouts to see. Some kids just want to be kids and have fun participating in a competitive sport game with friends. The proper kind of competition will allow them to have that fun. I have written an essay on sports that elaborates on this.
Obviously, winning a sport game should be the objective to make player's put forth the best effort. However, these athlete's know, in simplicity, that to have a winner, there has to be a loser.
Also, I still see athlete's get hurt in games from not doing good, pre game warm ups. They consider them boring, trivial exercise. They need to see that pre game warm ups can be an art and joy in itself. Dance can be a spontaneous warm up. People can feel their chosen music in their particular way and dance to it in their particular way. It's a fun way to warm up before participating in a sporting event.
